Jusoor's newest pillar of impact, the Career Development Program, is dedicated to devising and executing innovative programs aimed at addressing career and skills development challenges, particularly focusing on refugees and vulnerable youth within the Middle East. The department's projects encompass a range of initiatives that address skills gaps and foster socio-economic mobility in the Middle East. This department holds significant potential for several impactful outcomes such as early skills development for resilience, access to decent work, inclusive economic growth, meaningful employment opportunities, labor mobility and integration, and career exploration. 

About the Role

Our Career Development Program's Future Skills Project (FSP) is committed to equipping refugee adolescents, aged 14-17, with essential 21st-century skills, including English language proficiency. We are seeking a Business English Language Consultant/Trainer to collaborate with our project team in developing and delivering a teacher training on Business English curriculum tailored for young refugees. This role involves creating training materials suited to ESL speakers that support conversational classes to enhance the overall learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development:
   - Design and develop two levels of Business English curriculum tailored specifically for ESL speakers, with a focus on the unique needs of refugee adolescents.
   - Ensure that the curriculum is engaging, age-appropriate, and effectively prepares students for real-world business communication.
   - integrate and identify a methodology for the 1:1 conversation classes/ sessions into the overall curriculum to enhance practical language skills.
   - Identify a monitoring and evaluation methodology to measure  the effectiveness of the conversational sessions.

1. Teacher Training:
   - Lead the training of in-person and online teachers in the delivery of the Business English Language Curriculum, ensuring they are well-equipped to teach ESL students effectively.
   - Develop comprehensive training materials and resources to support teachers in both classroom and virtual environments.
2. Ongoing Curriculum Review:
   - Continuously assess and refine the Business English curriculum based on feedback from teachers and students to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.
   - Stay updated on the latest ESL teaching methodologies and integrate best practices into the curriculum.
3. Collaboration and Communication:
   - Work closely with the project team, language consultants, and teachers to ensure the seamless implementation of the curriculum.
   - Provide regular updates and reports on the progress and impact of the curriculum and teacher training initiatives.
   - Map English language learning opportunities for Syrian youth in the Middle East.
   - Develop research tools (surveys and focus group questions) to understand the English Language learning needs of Syrian students and youth.

Eligibility

  • Access to a computer or laptop with high-speed internet.
  • Strong command of Arabic, both spoken and written.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills in both speaking  and writing.
  • Proficient in computer skills, particularly in using Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel/Word, Slack, and Zoom.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural environment, demonstrating gender-sensitive behavior and attitudes.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Required Skills and Experience

1. Core Qualifications
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute projects within defined time frames.
- Deep understanding of the challenges faced by conflict-affected Syrian youth in English language learning and accessing quality secondary and higher education.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

2. Technical Skills
- Proficiency in curriculum development, especially for ESL (English as a Second Language) learners, is a significant advantage.
- Experience in developing training materials and leading teacher training sessions.
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with diverse teams and facilitate collaboration.
- Familiarity with tools like Google Sheets, Slack, and Zoom for managing remote collaboration.

3. Experience & Education
- Ideal candidates will have or be pursuing a degree in English, International Relations, Education, or a related field. 
- Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in roles involving ESL education, curriculum development, or teacher training.
- Experience working in or understanding the educational context of the Levant, particularly in public schools.
- Volunteering or professional experience in English language learning for Syrian youth or in a similar context is a strong plus.
